Frequently Asked Questions about image indexing software, database entry, file naming, from scanned drawings or invoices.

Q. Can ScanVue Entry be used for entering data from small documents like invoices?
A. Absolutely, all of the features of Scanvue Entry work equally well for large or small volumes of  documents or large blueprints while the text searchable database product ScanVue DB, is suited primarily for smaller quantities.

Q. How do I view and advance through the images?
A. After opening the first image, you can either use the mouse or keyboard to move through the images in alpha-numeric order. The "Right Arrow" will open the next image and the "Left Arrow" will open the previous image.

Q. How can I use ScanVue Entry to rename image files?
A. Select the renaming feature to open a single field where you may enter the new name. "Enter" advances to a pre-selected area (such as a drawing title block) on the next image and you can repeat the process as needed. When completed, you can choose to rename the images at that time or later. Our users report, they can accurately rename thousands of files in a day.

Q. Why use ScanVue Entry over OCR programs?
A. OCR programs vary in quality and price.  The best OCR programs with associated hardware are priced far beyond the reach of most users and lesser programs cannot accurately convert handwritten text, and still require extensive checking and editing.  A skilled typist using only this feature within ScanVue Entry can enter information from any part of the image faster and more accurately than most OCR programs.

Q. How can I keep a count of all of the characters I entered?
A. When exiting either the File Renaming or Data Entry options, simply select to create a file totaling all characters entered. This simple text file identifies "Number of Characters Entered in Fields = XXXX".  This character count allows for accurate tracking of internal costs or pricing to outside customers.

Q. How do I view images for quality, or enter data, before I perform costly editing processes?
A. Pre-select to display images rotated in 90 degree increments and also pre-select any area (including all) of the image to be displayed before any unnecessary processing.

Q. While advancing through the images, can I identify bad images needing further editing?
A. When you encounter bad images while viewing, the "Up Arrow" on the keyboard will open a text box allowing any comments you choose. After entering your comments, "Enter" will save the comments in an ASCII text file, along with the image information, and advance to the next image.

Q. Can I sort images according to pre-selected criteria such as quality, customer, size, etc?
A. Entering the comment mode will also allow an option to copy the currently viewed file to any of four directories with a single keystroke.

Q. Can I enlarge certain portions of an image "On the Fly" to check for image quality?
A. You can use the "Flying Magnifying Glass" feature to inspect any portion. You can select the degree of magnification and the size of the magnifier.

Q. Is ScanVue Entry used to edit images?
A. Performing time consuming and costly editing is not within the scope of ScanVue Entry since it allows images to be displayed correctly allowing entry of data or inspection for quality without editing.

Q. Do I use split screens or swap back and forth between the image and data entry windows?
A. No, the fields for data entry and the image are on the same viewing window.

Q. Can I view and enter data from the same area on multiple images in a directory?
A. You can define any area of an image and view only that area on all like images in a directory.

Q. How do I enter data from different locations on the same multiple images?
A. Define one area of the first image you choose and enter data from this area on all images. Then, open the first image again, select a different area and enter data from this area on all images. This can be repeated as often as necessary.

Q. Why didn't you design the program to stay on the same image and as I needed to enter data from different areas, jump to, and magnify those areas?
A. Entering data from the same area normally means the same type of data. Typing the same type of data means increased speed and accuracy. Jumping from one portion of an image to another takes additional time since the computer needs to refresh or redraw each portion.

Q. What if the information in a field is similar to the field on the previous image?
A. The "Alt+D" Keyboard keys will duplicate a single entry and "Alt+A" will duplicate all field entries. "Alt+C" will clear a single entry.

Q. How are the data entry fields set up and how many are they?
A. You can choose up to 100 different data fields, enter any title/heading for each, and select any of the fields to accept data. The path and filename data of each image is also saved.

Q. How is the data saved?
A. All of the data entered in the data fields is saved as an ASCII comma delimited text file each time you press "Enter" and is not lost in case of power failure.

Q. How can the text files be printed if needed?
A. All of the created text files can be imported in almost any text editor or printed before exiting ScanVue Entry.

Q. How can I use an ASCII file?
A. A standard ASCII text file is considered a "Universal" file and can be imported into practically any spreadsheet or database. Although there are many different databases on the market, an ASCII file can be imported directly into most.
